Site Innovation (siLAB)

We combine design with ecological engineering to dramatically reduce construction costs and timelines, thereby making the vision of tomorrow’s urban realm accessible to and a reality for the world’s most vulnerable communities. Our goal is to shift the common definition of “city” and challenge the assumed static nature of its elements to create a more performative, dynamic existence.

Much work and invaluable research and publications have explored integration in Architectural / “Building” practices over the past several decades. The AIA, BIM Software Manufacturers, and the development realm have introduced us to Design Build and Integrated Project Delivery tracks in the AEC world. But what of the “site?” What of the public and private realms exterior to the conditioned building shells of our urban environments?

siLAB is committed to fostering greater value in the “built environment” of site and infrastructure projects around the world. Within this web page, we share our approach to a synthetic practice of project realization and operational steps to “site innovation” and delivery.

The clients we work with span private and public sectors. Our projects work across numerous scales of the built environment, from new communities and masterplans, to the city block, to software code.

siLAB is currently located in Cambridge, Massachusetts as a research project led by Adam Mekies, PLA and urban design student at Harvard University’s Graduate School of Design.
